Favorite DIS Unplugged Moments of 2013

There is definitely no denying that 2013 has been a fantastic year for The DIS Unplugged podcast team! From the new live video format we started back in February to the many amazing places we were able to visit and the listeners we got to meet along the way, we are so thankful for everything that 2013 had to offer.

We took to our Twitter account, our Facebook page, and The DIS Unplugged Podcast Board on DISboards.com to see what our listeners thought were the best podcast moments of 2013. Below are the top ten listed, in no particular order, with embedded videos to relive them!

1. First Live Show & Video Premiere

On February 5th, 2013 at 1pm EST, we debuted our live video format. Almost a year later, we have definitely come a long way but it’s fun to look back at our very first video show!

One of the best parts of the live video format is the live chat that goes along with the broadcast every Tuesday afternoon. Don’t forget – in 2014 we’re moving to 2pm EST on Tuesdays so come and join us in chat! Subscribe to our Livestream channel to be notifications for the show and other special events!

2. DIS Meets For Give Kids The World

Some of the most rewarding parts of 2013 were the many outstanding meets organized by hard-working listeners to benefit Give Kids The World. Not only are the meets a great opportunity to raise money for an unbelievable cause, they gave the team a chance to meet new listeners and catch up with old friends.

Check out the videos below of the shows we have recorded at five of the DIS Meets for GKTW over the past year. We are really looking forward to the upcoming 2014 meets and the chance to help raise more money!

3. Destination Disneyland & #DISGoesWest

In March of 2013, some of the team got to visit Disneyland Resort for a content trip to get photos and video – and to visit Trader Sam’s just a few times.

It meant a lot to me because it was my very first time seeing Disneyland and it was everything I could have imagined. While I did get the chance to go again in June, this trip will always be special to me.

4. Teresa & Kathy’s Segments

Whether getting fit for an upcoming vacation, or teaching us how to craft-up our Disney Cruise, Kathy and Teresa always entertain us with their segments. Here are a selection of your favorites from 2013!

5. Overlooked Animal Kingdom

Two of the most popular segments from the past year were the Overlooked Animal Kingdom segments that Dustin worked on with special correspondent Holly Forde. Lots of listeners said that they learned several things about the park that they never knew.

6. Kevin & John’s Dining Reviews

In addition to Kathy and Teresa’s segments, the dining reviews that John & Kevin do also end up being fan-favorites. Below are two of the best of the year including their revisit to Coral Reef and the “sad little crab cake” and the Liberty Tree Tavern review!

7. Listener Christmas Cookie Segment

Our last segment of the year ended up being one of the most fun when the team took listener-submitted cookie recipes and we made them ourselves. While Teresa organized the segment, she unfortunately ended up getting sick before the show so we’re hoping to make this an annual tradition so she can take part next year!

8. Drink Around The World

It’s an extremely hard job, but someone has to visit Walt Disney World’s bars and test out their signature drinks. We stepped up to the task and lived to talk about it on the show! Check out the segment below and a fun overview of our “professional” work.

9. The 7 Resorts In 7 Days “7in7” Series

In 2013 we took on the task of visiting seven Walt Disney World resorts in seven days – moving to a new resort each day. And we did it twice! We spent each day trying the food, amenities, and other things that each resort had to offer. We still have one more week of 7in7 this year to complete all the resorts, but take a look at some of the highlights from the fourteen resorts we covered in 2013.

10. Beyond The Parks & Live Show From Hawaii

We cannot have a list of the top 2013 moments without mentioning one of the largest undertakings we’ve ever done on The DIS Unplugged – the ‘Beyond The Parks’ segments! Not only did it involve three and a half weeks on the road, but we brought you shows and content from Hawaii, Alaska, and Southern California.

All of the ‘Beyond The Parks’ shows and videos were mentioned as favorites, but the clear favorite was the live show we broadcasted from Disney’s Aulani Resort on our second day in Hawaii. Broadcast primetime on the East coast, this show involved special interviews and a gorgeous view of the Hawaiian beach behind us. It is definitely one of the coolest things that I have ever been a part of!

Thank you so much for looking back at 2013 with us! We had such an amazing year and we’re so thankful for your loyal viewership and having fun along with us. We can’t wait to bring you more DIS Unplugged in 2014!

See you all at 2pm EST on Tuesday, January 7th, 2014 at www.disunplugged.com!

Thanks Shaun, for including the videos and not just posting the list. It makes it so much easier to remember the moments without having to search the Dis archives for them. I am surprised that the live-stream of the Holiday parades, the special events, fireworks etc. didn’t make the list. Watching the live-stream of the Holiday parties, Fantasmic, World of Color etc. is the next best thing to being there. Thanks again to you and the team for a great year. Can’t wait for the New Year to begin.

And thank you to the entire Dis team for all of the hard work you guys do! It looks like a ton of fun, but a lot of work too. I can’t wait to see what you guys have planned for 2014! Happy New Year to you all!
