A Weekend of Wizardry and Magic with the DIS Unplugged

Wands, wizards, and muggles were abundant this past Saturday night, Dec 10th inside Islands of Adventure’s Wizarding World of Harry PotterThe DIS and Dreams Unlimited Travel threw a party for its customers, forum visitors, and fans of the vacation planning website.  To learn more about the amazing weekend events and activities, continue through the page break.

The highlight of the DISaPalooza weekend was a private party inside the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure theme park.  Guests from all over the world joined the DIS to enjoy an evening with short lines and plenty of space to enjoy the shops and attractions.  If you’ve ever been inside the Wizarding World of Harry Potter you know how crowded it can get, especially during the peak of the day.  With only 700 guests inside this very popular themed land it was a treat to have short lines and space inside the gift shops.

All guests had the opportunity to ride the land’s premier attraction – Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey.  With limited guests inside Hogwart’s Castle, those going through the queue had the chance to slow down and admire the amazing details inside the attraction.   Also available to guests were the other two attractions, Flight of the Hippogriff and The Dragon Challenge.  Guests were also treated to the Frog Choir, a popular village show inside the themed land for guests to enjoy

Butterbeer and Pumpkin Juice, both only available inside the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, were complimentary to guests.  Some guests chose to enjoy other land favorites like the famous chocolate frogs available inside the Honeydukes candy shop.

As the evening came to a close, more magic and wizardry was announced.  Guests and fans of the DIS and DIS Unplugged Podcast raised over $2700 for Give Kids the World Village and the Power of 10 campaign in the name of Pete Werner and Walter Echols who celebrated a very special day together.

As the evening came to a close we were left counting our Butterbeer and Pumpkin Juice calories and looking back on some terrific memories of an experience we’ll not soon forget.  I must admit it will be difficult experiencing the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in the future knowing we had unlimited access this past Saturday night.  For now it’s back to the regular crowds.

The following morning many guests joined the DIS Unplugged Podcast crew for a live taping of their weekly roundtable show inside the Walt Disney World Dolphin Convention Center.  A large crowd gathered to enjoy the team’s perspective on the Wizarding World of Harry Potter party, the year in review, and their most memorable moments in 2011.  Some guests were fortunate to take home some fantastic prizes as part of the podcast taping.  There were even some surprise announcements, like the DIS Unplugged show hitting the road in 2012 at select Power of 10 DIS meet locations throughout the country.

As the live podcast recording came to an end and the weekend came to a close we were left with more terrific memories.  We had the opportunity to meet friends old and new in our favorite theme park settings.  For one weekend we had the chance to come together and enjoy some amazing experiences.  Thank you to the DIS, Dreams Unlimited Travel, and all of their sponsors for hosting another spectacular weekend event.  We hope to see you next time.

An absolutely wonderful event! Now I see why so many folks rave about DISapalooza. This was my first and I’ll definitely be going to more. The venue, the good friends, and the great experience made this the perfect get together. Great blog Aaron. Thanks to the whole Dreams/DIS team for bringing this all together.
