She clearly does love her job and she seems to love the whales as well. What this blog tells us, and what we learned when Namu, the first performing captive orca, was on display in Seattle in 1965, is that orcas are eager to please and careful not to harm their humans (with a few exceptions when trainers have neglected or mistreated them).

The point Nature1 is making is that now that we know how intelligent and friendly orcas are, and now that we know that in natural habitats they are bonded for life with their matrilineal families, we should also know that we should not be using them for entertainment or even education. They deserve our respect and our empathy, and should be allowed to remain with their families in natural habitats.

Great job Dave. It was great to read Jen's story and understand the bond that develops between trainer and orca :)

Great blog, Dave. It's neat to see how the whales get so attached to their trainers. These are the types of jobs I dreamed about when I was a kid.

Um, Nature1, while I appreciate your feelings that Killer Whales should not be in captivity, I'm pretty sure that likening that captivity to having a family member abducted is a pretty silly anology. I think the blogger was just trying to tell as about an animal trainer that clearly, loves her job & her whales.

Makes you wonder why if how smart they are and wonderful.. why they are still in captivity.. there are a few animal in captivity that still have family members who by now think they have been dead for quite some time... how would you feel if your family member got abducted and you thought they were dead for 30 years... Corky from Sea world is an example.. and Lolita from the miami -seaquarium...
Killer whales should not be in captivity anymore..
