Super Bowl MVP Santonia Holmes comes to Magic Kingdom

| February 2, 2009

Have you seen the commercial where they talk with the football player after the game? They ask him where are you going and the player says “I’m going to Disney World!!”

Last night the Pittsburgh Steelers won their sixth Super Bowl ring.  The game was played in Tampa which isn’t all that far from Walt Disney World. Our family was on pins and needles watching the game last night since we used to live in the Pittsburgh area. We had our terrible towels to wave to bring the Steelers luck during the game.

We were thrilled when they won because that meant several of the players would be in a parade at Magic Kingdom today in the Walt Disney World resort. We called family and friends and made arrangements to meet for the parade.

Today was a typical Pittsburgh dreary rainy winter day in the Magic Kingdom.  No sunshine for the Steelers Parade.  We had expected the parade to start at 11 AM so we got there early to get a prime viewing spot.  It was amazing to see the large numbers of people wearing their Steelers shirts with pride in Magic Kingdom.  When we got there at 10 Main Street was already lined with enthusiastic fans.  Many were twirling their Terrible Towels and chanting,  Here we go Steelers, here we go.

It was funny watching some guests walking down the street.  You could tell they had no idea why the Steeler Nation had taken over Magic Kingdom.  A Dallas Cowboys fan started chanting and he was booed by the crowd.

The cast members couldn’t get over the size of the crowd for the Steelers. We eventually got word that only Santonia Holmes would be coming.  He was the MVP for the Super Bowl.  He was delayed for over an hour but the crowd was singing and chanting and just having fun.

Finally it was time for the one car parade to start.  The police motorcycles were coming down the street with their sirens going.  You could feel the crowd go wild.

All too quickly Santonia came down the street. Before you knew it the parade was over.  It was fun meeting other Steelers fans. It was a day for the memory books.

Nice to know those “terrible towels” have a REAL use…LOL!

Thanks for the pics, Kathy. Glad to see someone else have yucky weather…although that is a considerable sight better than the snow we’re getting!
