While washing your hands for 2 min is a great piece of advice, when you are at the parks as my family and I were over the New Year’s holidays with peak crowds of 95K; it is vertually impossible to avoid. Needless to say 3 of the 9 of my family members were affected at different severities, myself included. I have been in health care for many years and surely am aware of good handwashing techniques.

Here’s a piece of advice that my daughter’s daycare centers once said that stuck with me. You need to wash your hands with soap for about 2 minutes for it to be effective. While washing your hands sing the ABCs or Happy Birthday, and that will be about long enough. I’ve caught myself doing it too when I want to make sure I do a really good job washing my hands. I’ll just sing “Happy Birthday” to myself in my head.
