Members Only

Well, after tons of offers in the mail to join the Disney Movie Club, I did it!  I had always thrown them away (everything but the free stickers) thinking I had no use for a membership in the DMC, but after the fourth one I gave in and picked my 5 movies for $1.99 each.  Since I was getting the first 5 for such a great deal, I added the sixth one for $14.95 and the seventh one for $9.95.  If you’re keeping count that is 7 movies for less that $40.00!  Of course, being the Disney classic fan that I am, I chose Fox and the Hound, Mary Poppins, The Sword in the Stone, and the list goes on.  I hope Corey is ready for a movie marathon when they arrive!  Some of them may be torture for him, but he is always a good sport.

They still have not arrived on my doorstep after nearly three weeks of waiting!  Ok, I know I need to be more patient, but I want my DMC!  This week I recieved my first movie offer as a club member and the selection was Enchanted (which I already own) so I politely declined.  I did, however, look over the catalog that was sent just to see if anything peaked my interest and to my absolute delight I found the Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad!  Needless to say, I ordered it instead of Enchanted and now I am sitting on pins and needles waiting for it to arrive!  Those of you that listen to the podcast already know of my love for J. Thaddeus Toad aka Mr. Toad.

I only need to buy 3 more movies by April of next year to fulfill my contractual obligation!

    Great choices there.
I love the Ichabod and Mr Toad DVD.

Just remember to be quick sending your refusal of the monthly movie otherwise you’ll end up with ones that you didn’t plan on owning.

I keep saying I’m going to do the movie club but just never get around to it. I think with 4 kids we could clean up! Sounds like you have a decent collection for when a little Martin comes along!

I just joined also and love it so far. You can decline online so its super easy. We picked some of the same movies, Mary Poppins and Fox and the Hound. Our movies arrived in just over a week however, so you might want to check on it and make sure nothing go lost in the mail.

Have fun! We buy just about every disney movie that comes out anyway, don’t forget to use the Disney Movie Rewards too! I’m almost to the free TV level!

Congrats Julie. We are DMC members. Just a tip, if you forget to decline you current selection and it arrives in the mail, don’t open it. Just write return to sender on the label and pop it back in the mail box. That way you don’t have to pay for return postage! 🙂

Enjoy your new DVDs when they arrive.:)

I have been oh so close to joining DVC but haven’t just yet. I actually have a few older Disney classics on laser disc. I’m close to going DVC.

I think you’ve talked me into it but I have one question that I don’t see answered in their FAQ — how much is shipping on the reguarly priced DVDs? TIA!

I think I’m allergic to stamps or anything related to mailing stuff. I stink at it, which is why I never join anything like this. (Plus, with 3 kids, I already own most of them anyway.)

When my son and his fiancee were here in December, she was in DVD heaven and borrowed some that are in the infamous “Disney Vault.” Come to think of it, she hasn’t returned them yet.

They’re getting married next month. I’m thinking of standing up and shouting “SHE STOLE MY SLEEPING BEAUTY DVD” when they ask if anyone knows a reason why these two should not be wed.

Oh Regina- you are so funny. At least you have a fellow Disneyette marrying into the family. I want an entire blog about the wedding please!!

to disneybridein2k3: a regular DVD including shipping is: $28.90. yes you read that right. yes that is expensive. But I still love the club. . . And you can often get BOGO deals or at least drastically reduced deals.

Oh regina! Always funny. Wish you lived closer to Indiana. I’d love to go out for coffee!

elemusing- you are right 28.90 and that is why we got out of the club right after we met our committment. We kept getting our selection and before I could send it back one of my kids (or my big kid husband) would open it! Then I was stuck with it! (Let’s ignore the fact that it was mt fault for not declining it in time! HA!)

I just got my first shipment for DMC too. DD has been thrilled. I even threw in a Cheetah Girls for her but she wanted the Sword & the Stone first. 🙂 I know it is expensive for some stuff but the some that I have my eye on I won’t be able to find anywhere else & they are less than $20 right now – gotta get the Apple Dumpling Gang & my sister wants Escape to Witch Mountain.
I am already in a craft book club so I have the decline mentality!

I’ve been a member for quite a while.

I had a problem not too long ago and had to call customer service… the woman I talked to was so pleasant and she solved my problem quickly.

    I *heart* DMC!

Welcome to the club! It took me only 6 months or so to meet my requirements. I love having all my favorite movies finally on DVD (just donated all the old video tapes to Goodwill). As for ending up with a movie you didn’t order, it did happen to me once. It was “Meet the Robinsons”. I decided to keep it and give it a shot — and I’m glad I did, because I ended up loving it… so it’s not always a bad thing, I guess 🙂
